Great Presidents Who Made GREAT BIG Mistakes

Lincoln, 16th president

After Abe was elected, he had to travel by train to DC. Baltimore was one of the stops, but there were many rumors that an assassination attempt would be made in that divided city as he changed trains. He agreed to change his plans secretly, and slipped through town on a different train very early in the morning. While he arrived safely in the capital, he was depicted as a coward (even shown wearing women's clothes in political cartoons) for "sneaking" through Baltimore. This just gave extra ammunition to the Rebels who already didn't care for his Abe's political stance.
