The 8 Oldest Animal Species on Earth


Resembling the extinct ammonites of yore—despite being somewhat distant—the nautilus is the only cephalopod in existence to occupy the Nautiloidea subclass. They were once a common sight in the oceans and seas of the Paleozoic Era, but now the nautilus is the sole living representative of this group. Regrettably, they're threatened by unscrupulous profiteers that sell nautilus shells to collectors.
