5. Dr. Emmet Brown

In terms of eccentric scientists who remind us of our grandfather, Back to the Future's bug-eyed Dr. Emmet Brown is definitely the most memorable. This "student of all sciences" has all the characteristics of a crackpot: crazy unkempt hair à la Albert Einstein, and a paranoid fear of outsiders. Fortunately for Brown, though, his brilliance mirrors his eccentricity, as his inventions, like the sleek, time traveling DeLorean sports cars that are at the heart of the BTF series. Has there ever been a cooler time travel device in history?
