13. Doctor River Song

Doctor Who has had some pretty impressive companions over his five decade spanning run, and few have breathed more life into the series than River Song, whose keen intellect and razor sharp wit rivals that of even the Doctor himself. Who scribe Steven Moffat has described River Song as "one of the most important characters in Who history," and it's hard to argue with that, when her understanding of the complex principales of time and space is so massive.
