Elephant Hawk-moth Caterpillar

Elephant hawk-moth larvae get us all giggly for two reasons: 1) The caterpillar’s anterior is sometimes elongated, resembling the trunk of its namesake. Cute! 2) When threatened, the little fella draws itself inward, body segments bunching together to create the illusion it’s a deadly snake. Adorable, the caterpillar thinks it’s something it’s not!
