The Top 10 Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novels of 2013

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

Not a lot of YA novels begin with the narrator calling her mother a prostitute, but that just happens to be the case with Out of the Easy. It is a masterfully written book, written by an author who clearly understands raw emotion and how to get readers to be really engaged and feeling for what is going on. At times, it’s so intense that you have to remind yourself to take a breath, but Out of the Easy is one of the better examples of well-written YA fiction of the year.
