Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Scott Westerfeld is one of the best writers in YA fiction, and his novel Uglies is definitely an important candidate among books that should be taught in schools. In the novel, people are magically turned beautiful when they become 16, and a young girl is forced to catch her friend that has escaped if she ever wants to be beautiful like all of the other adults. It’s a brilliant examination of our society’s issues with body image, and should be read by anyone, not just students.
