American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Part Kerouac-style “road” novel, part mythological fantasy, American Gods is one of the great novels of the 21st century so far. Leave it to an Englishman to come to America and write the closest thing we’ve seen to the Great American Novel in almost half a century. It shows the minutiae of small towns and their religions with the backdrop of a war between old gods long forgotten. American Gods is the best work of Gaiman’s career and one of the best fantasy novels ever written.
