The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin

An absolute master of both sci-fi and fantasy, Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Dispossessed is a wonderful examination of the nature of our political systems. Two neighboring planets take completely different paths in the development of their societies, and simple difference in governmental style stands in the way of substantive friendship between the two planets for generations. Why is there tension between countries simply because of the way they approach their governments? Is there a government that works better than others? The Dispossessed might not have all the answers, but it asks great questions that could get any classroom gabbing for months.
