8) All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)

All Dogs Go to Heaven straddles that line of being terrifying and sad, but we’re not here to reminisce on the oft-talked about Hell sequence (that’s a countdown for another time). Charlie the German shepherd actually drowns saving the life of Anne Marie as his ultimate second act of redemption. It’s a happy ending since (as the title implies) Charlie does walk through the pearly gates, yet his saying goodbye to Anne Marie is still an emotional doozy.
