The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

First of all, the author of this book appears to be named after this tough cookie. So that's pretty neat, right off the bat. But The Snow Child is also one of those rare contemporary classics that everyone seems to love, regardless of literary taste. Set in 1920s Alaska, it tells the story of a luck-lorn couple who could really use a break. To cheer themselves up, they build a child out of snow, but when they wake the snow version has been replaced with a wild girl of the woods. That's all the info we'll give you: get thee to your bookstore if your curiosity is all piqued-out.
