The Shining by Stephen King
Most people have seen Stanley Kubrick's terrifying adaptation of King's winter horror story, but the source material deserves a read as well. The Torrance family's guardianship of the aggressively haunted Overlook Hotel is truly the stuff of nightmares. The book's plot differs quite a bit from Kubrick's version, so there will be surprises even for readers who have worn out their copy of the movie. There is still plenty of freaky RED RUM action, however, so be prepared for that whole creep-fest.
