Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe Series

Long before the television police procedurals, there were great series of detective novels by writers like Raymond Chandler and Agatha Christie. If any character would work in a modern show in the same way as Sherlock, it’s definitely Philip Marlowe. Famously played in movies by actors like Humphrey Bogart and Robert Mitchum, Marlowe is a distinctly American detective with a smart mouth and a probably unhealthy love of the drink. If that doesn’t scream modern TV, we don’t know what does!
