Of all the attractions at Disney World, Florida, Pirates of the Caribbean ranks within the top ten of most attendees' all-time favorite rides. So it may come as a surprise to learn that it was never intended for the park. When Disney World first opened in 1971, Imagineers had plans to build the Western River Expedition: A boat ride mimicking PoC, albeit with cowboys and Native Americans in place of oceanic marauders. Regrettably, attendees kept asking park staff about the whereabouts of the swashbuckling attraction, prompting Disney—among financial reasons—to scrap Western River Expedition.
