15 Awesome Fictional Versions of Earth

Earth from Paolo Bacilgaupi’s Ship Breaker & The Drowned Cities

Imagine a world where catastrophic climate change has damaged the world so terribly that practically everyone is destitute and struggling to find food to survive. Now add rival armies that train child soldiers to do their horrific bidding, making day to life even more difficult. That’s pretty much the universe of Paolo Bacigalupi’s novels Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities, where children are forced to strip old ship wrecks for copper wire to make a pittance of a living. It’s dark, sad, and a really scary possibility, but still some really interesting world building.
