Star Wars Cast Announcement: Who MIGHT Be Playing Who!

Star Wars Cast Announcement: Who MIGHT Be Playing Who!

Officially, without question, straight from Star and J.J. Abrams comes the truth: who is going to be in Star Wars: Episode VII. Directly from press release, the cast list reads like this:

“John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.”

Okay, okay. So, who could all of these people actually be playing? Here’s a quick list speculating on who might be playing who in Episode VII.

John Boyega-

His name is listed first, so he’s probably playing the lead. Over the past several months there have been all sorts of speculations that the “new Luke Skywalker” would not be directly related to the Solo/Skywalker clan, but rather, a new character. Thankfully (and as many hoped) the new lead of Star Wars is refreshingly, not a white guy! If I had to guess, I’d say Boyega’s character will be an outsider who is really, really going to bring balance to the Force. Maybe his name will be Starkiller?

Most likely role: Lead Jedi

Daisy Ridley-

The easy answer here is “a Princess Leia” type, but if this is truly going to be a Star Wars for a new century, I’d venture to guess Daisy Ridley’s character will share screen time with John Boyega and be just as instrumental to the plot as his lead. Will she be a Jedi? I don’t know, but between the two of them, I’m betting one of them won’t be, at least initially. If things are awesome, Daisy Ridley will either play the rumored daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi or, if we’re really lucky, Jaina Solo: Han Solo and Leia Organa’s daughter! By appearance alone, the latter makes more sense.

Most likely role: Jaina Solo

Adam Driver-

The bad guy. What kind of bad guy? Unclear, however, it’s entirely possible that all this stuff we’ve heard about the EU being jettisoned is totally untrue and Driver is playing Jacen Solo—twin of Jania—who falls to the dark side and becomes a bad guy! Either way, I’m guessing he remains unmasked and like his character on Girls, can break down a door like a champ.

Most likely role: Young Sith Punk, possibly Darth Caedus

Oscar Isaac-

Wow. What a wild card. Rising star, and great singer in Inside Llewyn Davis, I can only guess this guy will end up as a sort of Lando Calrissian smuggler type. But, if he rocks that beard he had in Inside Llewyn Davis, maybe he’ll be a young Jedi Master.

Most likely role: Cool smuggler guy with a cool name

Andy Serkis-

Who knows? Could this be the first time Serkis—famous for his roles as Gollum, King Kong and Caesar— won’t be some kind of CG monster? If he is a CG creature, will it serve as the new Chewbacca? Let’s just hope it’s not Jar Jar Bink’s “cool” grandson or something.

Most likely role: NOT Jar-Jar Binks

Domhnall Gleeson-

I know this is going to sound obnoxious, but I’m willing to bet everything that he plays Ben Skywalker, son of Luke Skwyalker and Mara Jade. If my tea-leaf reading of the above stuff is true, then Ben Skywalker is totally the right age to be a supporting hero in this movie. He’s got red hair from Mara!

Most likely role: Ben Skywalker

Max von Sydow-

Possibly the most confounding name on the list, the venerable old-school acting powerhouse is known for his gravitas in everything from Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal to randomly playing the voice in Vigo in Ghostbusters II. What could he be doing here. Best guess: evil sith spirit? Or the spirit of a long-lost Jedi Knight? Or…and let’s get really crazy here for a second and again pray for an EU reunion: the insane Jedi clone Joruus C'baoth? I mean, it kind of looks like him!

Most likely role: Joruss C’baoth or a similar old-school (maybe evil) Jedi.

As for the rest, well, I think it’s pretty obvious who Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Anthony Daniels will all be playing!

What do you think of new Star Wars cast! Exciting!!!!!!!!!!!
