4) Zanzibar Leopard
Their population concentrated entirely on Unguja Island in the Zanzibar archipelago, the circumstances surrounding the Zanzibar leopard's fate were unique as superstition and government fear mongering played a dual role in driving the species to extinction. Locals feared that the leopards were some sort of familiar, owned by witches and commanded to terrorize the populace. Not even the fact that this was the 20th century deterred people from subscribing to this notion. Under the Kitanzi Campaign, thousands of Zanzibar leopards were eliminated.
