Pacific Rim

Well, first off, let’s answer the age old question: “What the freaking freak is Kaiju?” Simply put, Kaiju means “strange creature” in Japanese, but over the years it’s come to mean “Holy crap! That thing's gotta be like a thousand feet tall!”. Well, writer/director Guillermo Del Toro is about as big a Kaiju fan as you can get, and his highly underrated Pacific Rim plays like a love-letter to Kaiju cinema. It delivers all the thrills you’ve come to expect from hard-hitting blockbuster movies, but packs an unexpected emotional punch, too. It’s about as much fun as you can have at the movies without watching it while piggybacking on top of Godzilla.
