Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan

This one requires a disclaimer: Altered Carbon is AWESOME cyberpunk but it is also INCREDIBLY violent. The basis for the story is that for most people, when they die, they are immediately reborn in a fresh body. Naturally, this means that the hero does in terrible ways along way because, well, he can! This does lead to some rather intense stuff. If you like some crazy violence, Altered Carbon is excellent, but not for the faint of heart!
