Who Could Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christine Be Playing in Episode VII? (And Why Lupita Will NOT Be Asajj Ventress)

Proving the newest Star Wars film will easily be its most diverse and also teaming with already-famous people, two more established actors have just joined the cast: Games of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christine and Hollywood “it” girl Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar-winner for last year’s 12 Years a Slave.

But who could these two fantastic people be playing? Here’s a few options from the Star Wars expanded universe.

Gwendoline Christine could be taking on all sorts of roles, but the one that jumps out to us the most is that of Winter. In the novels, Winter is Leia’s most trusted advisor and really works it when it comes to the espionage side of space politics. Winter is also married to Tycho, who is a bigshot in Rogue Squadron.

Speaking of Rogue Squadron, smuggler and all-around badass Mirax Terrick might also be a great choice of Gwendoline, though if she ends up playing a bad-guy, the scheming Admiral Daala would also be a great choice.

Lupita Nyong’o has already been rumored to be playing dark jedi assassin Asajj Ventress, but beyond any cultural problems about that, there’s an easier reason to dismiss that rumor: the character would be way too old. The new Lucasfilm story group has already decreed The Clone Wars cartoon part of official canon, meaning Asajj is a legit person. And even if Asajj was as young as 20 years old during the Clone Wars, that would make her like 70 in these new movies. Lupita is 31 right now!

So, who could she be playing? There seems to be a strong belief on casting her in a villainous role, but there’s no reason to believe might not be a member of Luke Skywalker's’ Jedi Praxeum. Tionne Solusar would be a fun choice, as she was supposed to have an ethereal presence and a huge interest in Jedi history. Though another sweet Jedi could be Kirana Ti, who was able to ride those giant monsters we know as Rancors. In any case, it would be great to see Lupita wielding a lightsaber.

Who do you hope Lupita and Gwendoline end up playing?
