For Rodda, one of the problems with girl toys is that they are too focused on playing with hair.

“If Scientist Barbie looked like any of the female scientists I've known she'd have her hair pulled back in a ponytail and be completely sleep-deprived,” he said.

Rodda does see some toys as making progress for girls though. He is a fan of the IAmElemental action figures, the Goldieblox project, and LEGO’s new women scientists set.
