Doctor Who Recap: The Zygon Inversion Lets Zygons be Zygons
Last week Zygon Addison and Human Ryan (or is it the other way around?) fangirled over Osgood(s). This week they're STILL fangirling over Osgood(s) but they talk about more serious things like how this series is basically a "scale model" of Doctor Who as we know it, the glory of the Doctor's big *moment* and of course...the impending and slightly unlikely return of Captain Jack Harkness! Are you "yasss" about all of these things? Pop on your sonic sunglasses and get on this roller coaster of madness!
so, I was Osgood for Comic Con
and I met another Osgood
we basically went along and people asked which one was human and which one was a Zygon
So, which one are?
What did we think of this one?
I LOVED IT
I was a bit "ehh" at the post-crash scene
but I LOVED IT
I LIKED IT
But I was a bit bored with the Clara versus Clara stuff
I thought the episode was oddly slow?
Yeah...I mean, from what it seems Osgood is way stronger than Clara. This could have happened in Day of the Doctor except Clara is special? WHAT IS CLARA ANYMORE. She can be a Dalek, she can be a Zygon - if she becomes a Cyberman I'm gonna lose it.
I thought it went fast then slow.
I just didn't buy the conflict of Zygon Clara talking to "real" Clara
There was something about it that lacked tension
we know neither one is going to get killed
I guess that we also know that the whole world isn't going to erupt into a Zygon war
(I love the fact that you used the word "erupt" hehe)
so the episode itself was kind of like the "scale model" the Doctor talked about
Oh gosh, yes
even when Osgood INSTANTLY knew that Clara's alive
and she said it like she knew all along
like, what was even happening there
Yeah. There was a lot I didn't really have FEELINGS about
Until the end
And Capaldi got a great, great, great Doctor Who
which might be his best yet
He's been so great all through the episode!
HE DID AN AMERICAN ACCENT
I think that was a reference to the game show
Eh. I thought that was annoying
I think it's like when American people do British accents to be funny
it's just like um...
YOU CAN LIKE IT
I mean, he's Scottish too
Bonnie = sweet
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE LOCKER CONTAINING THE SUPPOSED OSGOOD BOX HAD THE FIRST DOCTOR'S FACE ON IT
I just want an episode that is a tour of all that stuff
I just want to walk around the Black Archives
Was it in the last episode that there was a portrait of the 1st Doctor in someone's house?
or was that this one?
I think last one
it was in the safehouse
Yeah, they're laying it on pretty thick this season
I can't get over seeing bits and pieces of the old Doctors in this series
did you see Ashildr's helmet in the background while the Doctor was lecturing?
It was just there
and I love how it always ends up as "scale model" of war between the humans and the Zygons
when you look back with different Doctors
Yeah. It was cool. Though, again, I thought the episode was a "scale model" for Doctor Who episodes
Day of the Doctors vs. the Zygon inversion
that is genius
like it was a little bit meta
this entire series has been a little bit meta, tbh
Yeah, let's do it!
(I have a vague idea of what yours is gonna be!)
*time travels back to previous recap* Ryan's top three:
Ryan Britt -
You go first!
I don't know where to start
-His speech. Brought me. To actual tears. It was glorious. I FELT HIS PAIN. Zygela felt his pain! It was spectacular (still trying to make spectacular happen).
(it's working. You're making it happen)
-"Petronella" and "Basil" - I would believe he's Basil any given day.
I'm going to make Basil happen.
(aww thanks. You're nicer than Regina George!)
Why of course, Lady Me
-the fact that there still remain two Osgoods and there are two Osgood boxes.
I do have another thing. I love how they put a lot of real life war things into this episode. I could see a bit of the Imitation Game in this episode, which gives it an edge. Not a Doctor Who edge, but just an edge in general.
he referenced the Moment
okay, I need to stop
the "Day of the Doctor" stuff was great
my top three!
1. Osgood 2. Osgood 3. Osgood
My top three is like all the different parts of the Doctor's speech in the end
this is what Doctor Who is all about
I could feel myself thinking about how I would react to this if I were a little kid
And then how I would react to it when I was say, in my mid-twenties really into David Tennant
or me now!
So, there were like three of me
watching/listening to that speech
and I loved that.
My personal connection with Doctor Who is how corny it can be
and how wonderful that corniness is
It reminds me of why I love Star Trek
and this speech was very Captain Picard
but very Doctor Who
Capaldi had in that moment was amazing
and when he almost cried
I have to say
it was almost too good for this episode
(I KNOW. You're obsessed with picturing the episodes from a child's point of view.)
even at the end
when Clara asked him how he felt when he thought she was dead
when she says "it could've only been 5 minutes"
he's like "I'll be the judge of time"
THE OSGOOD IN ME WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN IN EXCITEMENT
Yeah that was awesome
Also, what do you think about that comment
Could he have been time traveling during that?
Do you think there's more to that comment?
"Longest month of my life"
I don't think so
it was so sweet
if I had to do a conventional top three
it would be 1. Speech
2. Osgood twist at the end
the ending was so Sherlock, though
I'm sorry to say this
but I think Moffat needs to go
I think many have been saying that since the first Matt Smith season
we need more of Toby Whithouse
Yeah. Or Davies back!
There's all kinds of angles here
Moffat leaving is something that would help in MANY ways
I do think his style works better with Capaldi than with Smith!
What thoughts do you have for next week?
Why do I feel like you have a list...
(I know I do.)
Yeah, because I feel like he drove Matt Smith like a puppet
Next week - it's gonna be like the game show episode
I don't know why
I got that feeling when I saw the promo for it
From the 1st season?
you know what that means
IT NEEDS JACK HARKNESS
(Same thing we "predict" every week!)
(I know, right? Someday, Ryan. Someday.)
Basil, signing off!
