The SPOILERIEST Doctor Who Chat That E'er Was Chatted!
Fair warning to all newborn and veteran Whovians who have not caught up with Series 9: THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET FEELSY. SPOILERAMA 5000!
*waves while hanging from the TARDIS*
What a great scene!
My first instinct would be to cry
Reminded me of "Day of the Doctor"
I'm so shocked
I had read nothing
Did you know I stood there where the TARDIS landed in Day of the Doctor?
I have to go there
Are we jumping straight into it
Do you think we're ready?
I wasn't ready for it anyway!
to switch it up
before we start
let me say
we *kind of*
got a Captain Jack
THAT'S WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO SAY
I was slapping my imaginary friend's arm the entire time!
just in another dimension
let's get into what really matters
Is crying allowed?
I bet you're crying right now
let's warn everyone
You should stop reading now if you haven't seen the episode!
(lots of spaces)
Clara got killed by a raven
I'll be really honest with you
I"m way less sad than I should be
I'm not a Clara hater (I know a lot of people are)
Because we knew it would happen
And it was so weird
Like I think the idea that she died because "that's the rules" was a bit off
I mean, I would've preferred your Danny Cyberman - Clara Dalek analogy better than a RAVEN
Kind of like David Tennant regenerating because of a crappy two-way-door system
Clara as a Dalek
than a Raven killing her
I mean, don't get me wrong, this episode was super cool.
But a little anti-climactic
Or should I say
because all I wanted to know was where the Doctor was being beamed to!
I honestly would've loved if Maisie William's wasn't in this episode
Just casually putting it out there
it did create another element that made things hard to focus on
it does solidify the Doctor's feelings about her
But if it was a new character
I would've been impressed
New one-off character
My big feeling is this
I think this episode shouldn't have worked on paper
but somehow does
which is what Doctor Who does best
Oh, it's a story about Rigsy
it's a story about Clara being reckless and dying
it's a story about the Doctor not turning into a jerk after tragedy
Space Alien Refugees!
So much is here
and it's actually balanced really well
AND IT'S A STORY OF HOW CONSCIOUS THE DOCTOR IS ABOUT HIS ACTIONS AND MISTAKES
One would think just because Ashildr is not in the previous episodes the Doctor's put her to the back of his mind
it was pretty awesome
I love the aliens living in plain sight thing
And very Buffy
I guess I have very few problems with this episode
I was half expecting to see Angel
I thought it was done really, really well
I was shocked!
That Clara died this exact way
and I'm not totally convinced
that she is dead
I will say this
a companion hasn't DIED in how long?
Because she technically did die
Rose didn't die!
Rose is still alive!
Capaldi could meet Rose!
But she's dead in this universe!
She's alive in the AU
IS THAT NOT WHY SHE HAD TO SAY GOODBYE TO THE DOCTOR IN THE FIRST PLACE
Ohmigosh the feels
It's not the same
which is weirdly
why this was so jarring
And such a slow death
Because with Rose, it's like all this "oh, well maybe...but no, probably not"
with this it was just like "Boom"
strategy didn't work out
Which, in a way, is more realistic
But it's Clara
I would've preferred for there to have been a bit more color
Clara has had big deaths BEFORE
It's like she came in with big deaths
and is exiting a little more realistic?
But she's been such a crucial element in the show
More than any other companion
(As realistic as getting killed bye a ghost crow can be)
I think that might be a generational thing.
I think if you were to ask most fans my age
we'd say "Clara is okay."
Isn't Peri the last companion who died?
No Peri lived
the 5rth Doctor saved Peri
That could be debatable
before he became the 6th
Isn't there an alternate ending
I'm not sure!
Flying somewhere along the Internet
here's what I mean about Clara though
I feel like the "importance" of Clara
has been sort of overstated
Like the show has tried very hard to convince us she's important to him
but...I'm not sure I buy it as MUCH
as I buy Amy
Especially in "Day of the Doctor"
but if I think about the ones that really matter
I think Rose Amy Donna
(I love Martha)
and I LIKE Clara
but I don't buy them as being as influential
it's just a feeling
(Why? WHY? Well, she has some redeeming qualities but her character was poorly written at most stages)
Rose Amy Donna
her early episodes
with Matt Smith
are really bad
like, the "Snowmen" is awesome
but most of those other ones
Bells of St. John was good but weird
(I do like "The Rings of Akaten" though)
it's not NEAR as good as these episodes this season
I guess what I'm saying is this
I feel bad for the character of Clara
and for Jenna in specific
because she's part of so many transistions
so the actual character seems lost in there
is she a school teacher?
someone looking for love?
someone losing love? (both the 11th Doctor and then Danny?)
Is she someone who takes care of kids for a living?
(Remember that? Back with those kids in the Neil Gaiman episode?)
Come to think about it
That does strike me as odd
In a way
She's the opposite of every other companion
What do you mean
They all found their purpose in life after their travels with the Doctor
She didn't wanna be shop girl for the rest of her life
But then she became Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth
But with Clara
She was already Defender of the Earth in her own rights
She got all tangled up and then she was just that
Clara is permanently retconned because of what happened in "The Name of the Doctor," but I still feel like fans will love the other folks we've mentioned more
Which is just weird
Like *technically* she's more important (in terms of big events)
I loved this exit
though I’m not convinced we won't see her again in some capacity
Are you sure
Mostly because there STILL could be other versions
Other than flashbacks
OR PHONE CALLS
Clara got splintered off into the Doctor's ENTIRE timeline
to save him
in "The Name of the Doctor"
there could be another Clara show up like 10 years from now
That is a huge possibility
She could always come back
I don't think she will
but it would easy
(Same thing with Rose and the 10th Doctor)
That's what we thought about Sarah Jane
(AU 10th Doctor can come back and look older and it would make sense)
let's talk what we liked about this episode
Top 3 this?
1. Everything about the writing was fantastic. I thought from the dialogue to the larger themes, it was just one of the stand out epsiodes
if someone was watching Doctor Who for the first time, this would be a great one
2. The scenes with the TARDIS flying were really exciting and fun. I loved the imagery
3. Rigsby. (sp?) I really like that actor and I like the call back to Flatline. He's just a NORMAL person with a whole normal biography and I love when Doctor Who has characters like that. Clara ended her time as such a superhero. I like regular people!
Regular people are amazing
I don't like that we don't see enough of them sometimes
Unless they're dying
Like, he was still talking to his wife!
This episode paid so much attention to detail
I think you're right about if someone had this as their first Doctor Who episode
Because so many things have been explained
(and there's a great cliffhanger)
(that would be my number 4)
All the traits of Doctor Who
-The Doctor thinking out loud. I love that we get a lot of that this series. Like, hey, I can't save you but I will! But then there's so much reality in it so you're always left satisfied.
-Twelve's theme was in it!
I missed that a LOT last episode.
-Diagon Alley. Cybermen and Oods being normal humans all caj
Like, what if Harry Potter is just Cybermen and Oods
What if they're all really aliens
Something that I liked and did not like
Was the scary crow
It was the scariest thing watching the crow kill the Cyberman
Don't blink, don't see, RUN FROM THE CROW
What are you predictions for next week?
Where is the Doctor?
you have one more!
What didn't you like?
I'm the worst
that it was over
I don't know. The Diagon Alley set really bugged me
it seemed cheap/fake?
It didn't seem like a real refugee camp
Wanted something a little less "village-y"
It seemed more like something out of Sweeney Todd
like they were filming a Sweeney Todd TV movie
I didn't like how Clara took Rigsy's sentence
and then were like, hey, we can just make this a Doctor Who thing
they're all aliens
seemed sort of tacked on
Will the Doctor have a new companion so soon?
I'd say not until next season
(Runnaway Bride action)
BUT NOT ASHILDR
She's like a clingy ex
Where is the Doctor though?
Sorry, I was trying to channel my inner Hazel Grace
Maybe he's on the moon
Barefoot on the moon
Any other predictions for next time?
I am sealed in
I have no predictions other than seeing Ten again
that's our prediction
I've got your confession dial
For goodness sake!
