Now wol I stinten of the goddes above,
Of Mars, and of Venus, goddesse of love,
And telle yow, as pleynly as I can,
The grete effect, for which that I bigan.
Well, now I’m going to stop talking about Mars and Venus and the gods in the heavens, and I’ll tell you all about the most important and exciting part of the story, which is why I wanted to tell you this story in the first place.
