January 3: Sleep Day
Gray Saturday. Things aren’t getting much easier.
Jeremy finally called. He grilled me about what happened outside
with Luke, down to the last detail. For the most part, my story
held up against the crossfire. It’s not like anything happened between
us. As for why I walked out of the party, when I filled him in on
how obnoxious Sharon was to me, it seemed to
quell Jeremy’s rage for
the time being, and the conversation ended with a relatively
gratifying plea bargain—we
“might not break up after all.”
In other dreadful news, I asked my brother what he wanted
for his birthday next week. He said he didn’t want a gift, just
for Luke to show up at his party. No gift? I
had no idea Luke’s presence held this much weight. After considering
all the relevant factors, including my financial woes and my vow
to steer clear of Luke, I told Rico it was a touching request, which,
unfortunately, could not be arranged.
