We recently received an email from Nelson, a student who has applied for early admission at the University of Georgia. He wanted to know if the following constitutes a good score:
Nelson also include some info about his academic track record:
Nelson sounds to me like a high achiever, but like many students, he shared his fear that his admission will be deferred. As we've said before, Nelson should compare his information to that of other first year students at the University of Georgia as reported on the College Board's website. Here are the scores of the average student admitted to the University of Georgia:
Nelson appears to be in good shape. The average student admitted to the University of Georgia is in the same score range as Nelson. Furthermore, he's at the very top of this range for math and he has a good writing score.
The next factor to consider is the percentage of students who are admitted out of those who apply. At the University of Georgia, 56 percent of the applicants get in. From what we know about Nelson, he seems like he would be in the half that's accepted.
Nothing is ever certain when it comes to college admissions. Every once in a while, a school passes on a student who looks great on paper. However, given the facts that Nelson rocks a 4.0, takes the hard classes, and is very active at school, he seems to have made good strides toward becoming a Bulldog.
How are you feeling about your score? Let us know in the comments, and email testpreptutor@sparknotes.com.
