Scoring
As you learned in the introduction, you will receive a score between 200 and 800 on the Math section. The scores vary in 10-point increments, so all scores end in 0. Since the GRE is a computer-adaptive test, the computer calculates your score as you proceed through the section, taking into account not only right and wrong answers but also the level of difficulty of each question you answer. The way the computer actually arrives at your score is fairly complex. Suffice it to say that as the CAT program adjusts the questions it presents to you based on your performance, it homes in on your ability level until the end of the section when its assessment of your math prowess is complete. You will receive an unofficial score right there on the screen at the end of the test. Official scores will be mailed to you later.
