The PSAT
The real
name of the PSAT is the PSAT/NMSQT,
which stands for the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test. The PSAT is very similar in format and content
to the SAT (with one big difference that we will explain) and is
administered each year to high-school juniors who will soon take
the SAT. Colleges do not directly consider PSAT scores when making
acceptance decisions.
At this point, you should be asking, “So why should I
take the PSAT, if colleges don’t care about it.” We’re glad you
asked.
