Redundancies
Avoid redundancies like in my own personal opinion (if you say my own, we already know it’s your personal opinion). Such phrases make your writing sound flabby and boring, and should be mercilessly cut. Below is a list of some common redundant phrases:
  • audible sound
  • biography of his life
  • close proximity
  • completely unanimous
  • each and every
  • end result
  • the future to come
  • if and when
  • in actual fact
  • one and the same
  • the reason . . . is because
  • the reason why . . . is because
  • refer back
  • return again
  • revert back
  • six a.m. in the morning
  • six p.m. at night
  • small in size
  • true fact
  • twelve midnight
  • twelve noon
