Split Infinitives
A split infinitive occurs when an adverb is insinuated between to and a verb.
Split Infinitives: To honestly say; to bravely proclaim; to basically snub; to grudgingly do; to greatly worry
In the old days, split infinitives were strictly forbidden. Now, however, most people don’t mind them if the alternative, more correct version sounds awkward. The classic example is Captain Kirk’s famous phrase to boldly go where no man has gone before. To many people, to go boldly where no man has gone before would sound distinctly odd.
