Brand Names
You’re under no legal obligation to use the © symbol, or the ® symbol, or even the ™ symbol in your writing—and you probably shouldn’t use these symbols, since they clutter up the page.
Brand Names
Capitalize brand names.
• Pepsi, Sony, the Gap
There are a few classically tricky brand names that many people assume are generic.
• Kleenex, Xerox, Ping-Pong, Band-Aid, Laundromat
These words are losing their trademark status and are sometimes written in lowercase.
Computer Terms
Proper names should be capitalized.
• Microsoft, Windows XP, AOL, Internet Explorer
