Bags That Pack a Punch

When you go thrifting, don’t forget about the accessories section! It’s often a great place to look if you haven’t found any clothing. You can instantly personalize your look by adding a vintage or thrifted bag, belt, or shoes. I’ve been on a little bag-buying binge recently. Different occasions call for different purses. I think I’ve got myself covered with these three unique pieces.

(Calvin Klein Clutch, Buffalo Exchange, $25)

Clutches have been making appearances all over in retail stores and on runways. I’m completely obsessed with this cracked leather oversized clutch by Calvin Klein. It’s even big enough to fit my notebooks, pens, a spare camera battery, and other essentials. I was originally attracted to this purse because of its color, but then I discovered that it has three collapsible compartments and places to put my keys and phone. Talk about function and style! I love it when the two mingle.

(Vintage Satchel, Goodwill, $8)

I thrifted this great printed satchel last week when I was looking for a new bag to wear to school. Check it out: it has short straps so I can carry it as a tote, and also long straps so I can throw it over my back! It’s made of canvas, so if it gets dirty from being dragged across campus, which I’m anticipating, it will be easy to throw in the wash.

(Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Buffalo Exchange, $175)

Though this purse has been one of my more extravagant purchases, I did not pay the ticket price for it. Remember my post on Buy/Sell/Trade stores? I sold a bunch of my clothes, got store credit, and only ended up paying $7 out of pocket for this standout fur bag (actual retail price: $500, ouch!). What a steal! It came brand new with tags  and is from the Marc Jacobs Spring ’10 collection. The season is still relatively current, and this bag goes with all of my favorite black outfits.

P.S! I have an important announcement. I recently launched my very own online vintage store, Whiskey and Lace! To celebrate the store opening, we are giving away a $25 gift card. Check us out at to get the full details and enter!
