Casting an All-Female Shakespeare Play!

A few years back, Julie Taymor threw together a crazy film adaptation of The Tempest starring Helen Mirren as Prospero (a character who typically sports a Y chromosome). Mirren nailed the part so thoroughly — as is her wont — that we couldn’t help but think of all the Shakespearean roles, male and female, that today’s many exceptional actresses could chew up and spit out like so much tobacco (we mean that as a good thing). So here are our dream casts for a few of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, featuring fantastic all-female actors. Who would YOU cast in your favorite play?
