July 6, 2012 (T-minus 2 days) Location: My house, somewhere in North Carolina Mood: Too psyched for words
The Mayans were wrong, they say. 2012 is not the end of the world, they say. There’s a one-in-a-bajillion chance that we’re all going to die on December 21st of this year thanks to the destruction of the world by some sort of unknown force, they say.Well, maybe that’s true. HOPEFULLY that’s true. But I, Metalhead865, happen to know that somewhere between July 8th and July 12th, there’s another chance of it all going kaboom. Because Camp Electric 2012 is going to bring the rock n’ roll thunder, and maybe even cause the musicocalypse.
Me and my crappy Fender Starcaster, who I’ve affectionately dubbed Trash Heap—or Trash for short—are along for the ride. (The guitar in the picture is not Trash; it’s my Paul Reed Smith. Its name is Thor. I’ve also got an acoustic named Hawkeye.)
So for those of you who don’t know/didn’t read my posts last year, Camp Electric is a music camp started by one of my favorite musicians—TobyMac—for teens who like to rock. For five days, high schoolers and college students from all over the country come to Nashville to take classes, meet bands, see concerts, and hang out with other people who like to rock and roll.
I started going to camp in 2010, and I did a diary/blog about it last year. You might have seen it, with this awesome picture of me with the most awesome wig ever. To recap: Last year, I met bands like Thousand Foot Krutch, Sanctus Real, and Disciple (who I got to help out with moving some of the stage equipment for). I made some awesome friends and learned some important things about performing, chords, and songwriting.
And this year is looking like it really could be a musical supernova of awesome. Us rock fans are gonna have it covered —Fireflight, Royal Tailor, Rush of Fools, and RED are all on the bill. There’s a couple of rappers, too—Trip Lee and KJ-52—and we’re even gonna have a mini-rave hosted by the Capital Kings (who are pretty obscure, but I love their remixes). There’s gonna be guest speakers, performances, and contests. Oh, and a ton of my friends from last year are returning, so that’s gonna be awesome. Especially Orange Haired Girl, aka Electra, aka Shelby. Over the last year, we’ve become really close friends and done some music stuff together. She’s pretty freaking awesome.
And, it turns out, my efforts last year to get you guys to come to camp THIS year were somewhat successful! Our very own fellow Sparkler, WereNotSure, is coming on the intermediate acoustic guitar track. Hope we can hang out, too.
Anyway, it’s about time I started packing my stuff up…including the four demo CDs I burned yesterday. I’ll write more tomorrow when we get to Knoxville.
Does Camp Electric sound awesome or what? Check out Metalhead‘s diary from last year here!
