The Maze Runner Is Going To Be a Movie!

Movie news always makes us Mindhutters happy, so when we heard that James Dashner’s The Maze Runner was being turned into a movie, it made us pretty ecstatic. The Maze Runner is the first novel in a post-apocalyptic YA trilogy that features a teenage boy named Thomas who has just woken up in a strange world with his memory wiped clean. The community is located in a place called The Glade and is surrounded by an unending maze full of monsters. What’s more, the only residents of The Glade are teenage boys—no girls, and no adults.

It’s a gripping read, to be sure, and it’ll probably translate into a kick-butt movie. The studio (20th Century Fox) is apparently taking a chance on a newbie director, Wes Ball. Ball’s history in Hollywood is actually in the graphics department, but he attracted attention with his post-apocalyptic short film called Ruin. 20th Century Fox has also contracted Ball to direct a longer, feature-film length version of Ruin, so the timeline for The Maze Runner isn’t quite clear.

So in other words? It might be awhile before we see The Maze Runner in theaters. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing; it gives the studio and director time to create a vision, to do justice to the casting process, and all in all, to make sure they don’t hurry through the process. And, in the meantime, if you need something to do while you’re waiting, you can check out Dashner’s latest book The Kill Order, which is the prequel to The Maze Runner trilogy (but, according to Dashner, should be read after the original books).

Are you psyched for the Maze Runner movie or what!?
