While this is certainly a giant leap in the right direction, we have a long way to go before the spectrums of gender identity and gender expression become concepts \u00a0that a majority of the population understand and accept.<\/p>\n<p>Gender is \u00a0complicated, it&#8217;s complex, and it means something different to everyone. \u00a0We haven&#8217;t hit \u00a0on this topic as \u00a0often as we&#8217;d like to be true\u2014here&#8217;s a superb \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/community.sparknotes.com\/2016\/02\/05\/the-2nd-place-winner-of-the-sparklife-identity-essay-contest\" target=\"_blank\">piece<\/a> \u00a0from the \u00a0essay contest we held, and some of our \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/community.sparknotes.com\/2015\/09\/21\/auntie-sparknotes-am-i-genderqueer\" target=\"_blank\">Auntie<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/community.sparknotes.com\/2014\/12\/05\/auntie-sparknotes-i-came-out-as-trans-and-my-bff-isnt-supportive\" target=\"_blank\">columns<\/a> \u00a0address the topic.
