{"id":1391180,"date":"2016-07-26T13:00:18","date_gmt":"2016-07-26T17:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community.sparknotes.com\/?p=1391180"},"modified":"2016-07-26T13:04:18","modified_gmt":"2016-07-26T17:04:18","slug":"decoding-fictional-characters-zodiac-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/blog\/decoding-fictional-characters-zodiac-signs\/","title":{"rendered":"Decoding Fictional Characters&#8217; Zodiac Signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/characterzodiac_lunaMAIN2jpg_LargeWide.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p>High school students \u00a0have, for centuries probably, been \u00a0given the tedious \u00a0task of classifying fictional \u00a0characters into <em>archetypes<\/em>. \u00a0You may not know this, but the \u00a0whole concept \u00a0of archetypes comes from the TRUE, ESTABLISHED, AND VERY SCIENTIFIC fact that our personalities are \u00a0predetermined by the stars under which we were born.<\/p>\n<p>As it happens, our favorite characters, although born into parallel \u00a0dimensions, are not free from the movement of the galaxies:<\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_anne.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Shirley from \u00a0<em>Anne of Green Gables<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anne was undoubtedly born under the cosmic influence of <strong>Aries<\/strong>. \u00a0The redheaded childhood heroine of anyone with a good school librarian made her entrance under the \u00a0northern celestial hemisphere (and then reincarnated almost a century afterwards, again under Aries, with the name of Hermione Granger). Anne is a true \u00a0Ram: She&#8217;s got determination, a hardworking spirit, a strong sense of duty, a body full of energy and enthusiasm. And yet all of these good Methodist qualities are sprinkled with the rebellion, possessiveness, and ability to fall out of canoes in front of boys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_monica.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monica Geller from <em>Friends<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Everything about Monica screams <strong>VIRGOOOO<\/strong>. \u00a0Why? Two \u00a0words: Perfectionist and \u00a0clean-freak. You might be thinking \u00a0that paints \u00a0an unfair picture of dear old Mon, but don&#8217;t forget that \u00a0Virgos tend to direct all of this perfectionism towards the needs of other people and the community. Exhibit A: \u00a0all the \u00a0incredible meals Monica cooked to make up for Rachel&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/roomforgelato.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/5.gif?w=640\" target=\"_blank\">Thanksgiving trifle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_tree.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Tree from \u00a0<em>The Giving Tree<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whaaaaat a <strong>Pisces<\/strong>. The \u00a0good-natured, caring, tolerant hunk \u00a0of flora was also, sadly, steeped in \u00a0cluelessness. Endearing but frustrating cluelessness. \u00a0Have you ever \u00a0thought about why the \u00a0Tree didn&#8217;t notice that the Boy was an undercover frenemy? We were all _rooting_ for you, Tree, and yet\u2014you handed \u00a0all of your cellulose and dignity \u00a0to that ungrateful boy on a silver platter. This is why we have global warming.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_alaska.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alaska Young from <em>Looking for Alaska<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An authentic <strong>Gemini<\/strong>. \u00a0It&#8217;s \u00a0said of Geminis that they baffle people \u00a0with their intelligence and quick wit \u00a0(Alaska can quote Simon Bolivar and make you laugh all in one breath). \u00a0But she&#8217;s \u00a0complex and contradictory\u2014she can be the coolest \u00a0friend, pulling out the stops with sage advice and contraband vino. But she can fall into a dark restlessness on a dime. And she&#8217;s full of initiative to start new activities and challenges, but does she have the consistency to finish them? Meh. (I still love her to bits.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_luna.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luna Lovegood from \u00a0<em>Harry Potter<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frivolous? Deep under the frivolity? Sensible? Unpredictable? All clear indicators that Luna Lovegood was born and bred under the influence of <strong>Aquarius<\/strong>, that summery constellation in the northern hemisphere. They&#8217;re known for being \u00a0unwavering (Luna will never be swayed \u00a0re: \u00a0Nargles). But a true \u00a0Aquarius \u00a0CAN change her mind if the empirical evidence consistently\u2014and I mean \u00a0<em>very<\/em> consistently\u2014disproves her (Luna eventually conceded that the Crumple-Horned Snorkack does not exist :\/ ). Other defining traits: \u00a0She&#8217;s \u00a0imaginative, tolerant, and curious (see: upside-down Quibbler). And last \u00a0but not least, Aquarius&#8217;s signature color is&#8230; \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/24.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m6ycnfM7Av1qa9jn1o1_250.gif\" target=\"_blank\">turquoise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/zodiac_raven.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Raven from \u00a0<em>The Raven<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ah, nevermore was there a bird so <strong>Scorpian<\/strong> as the Raven. Although lacking in Scorpio&#8217;s excellent advice-giving qualities on the surface, it <em>could<\/em> have cawed \u00a0a reply to Edgar Allan&#8217;s poor lamentations if it wanted to (&#8220;Quoth the Raven, &#8216;Lenore&#8217;s gone for good, my dude.'&#8221;).
