When I first read about \u00a0Nerve<\/em>, I saw it \u00a0described as an “action crime techno-thriller survival film” and thought: ALL THAT, PLUS \u00a0Dave Franco’s cheekbones? I’M SOLD. \u00a0Friends, it surpassed<\/em> \u00a0the hype\u2014it’s \u00a0a \u00a0nail-biting \u00a0commentary on the consequences of taking candy from creepy strangers who watch you through your phone camera.<\/p>\n

To give you a taste of the plot: When her best friend calls her out for being too shy, \u00a0Emma Roberts (Vee) signs up as a “Player” for an online game called Nerve, where you complete dares provided by the game’s users (“Watchers”) \u00a0in exchange for cold, hard cash. \u00a0Vee crosses paths with \u00a0Dave Franco (Ian) on her first dare, and the rest is history that got \u00a0my heart \u00a0racing at LEAST seventeen \u00a0times (The first thing I did after seeing \u00a0it \u00a0was text Sparkitor Jessie: \u00a0“I WANT TO THROW MY PHONE OFF A BRIDGE”).<\/p>\n

Basically, it’s what would happen if you signed up for Pokemon GO with \u00a0your social security number and bank account information, and then Snapchatted yourself playing so everyone in the world could see where you were at all times.<\/p>\n

One thing \u00a0that really \u00a0stands out \u00a0in this movie is that there are some \u00a0kickass \u00a0female characters, including Azhar, the head of an exclusive \u00a0hacker network that has NOTHIN’ on Q over at \u00a0MI6. \u00a0We \u00a0got to sit down with the brilliant \u00a0actress who plays her, \u00a0Samira Wiley \u00a0<\/strong>(Pouss\u00e9y in Orange Is the New Black<\/em>), who, in my opinion, has the most<\/strong> badass gig in the whole movie. I don’t want \u00a0to spoil anything, but she’s the reason the film can \u00a0come to an end. \u00a0I almost gave her a standing ovation, but then I realized \u00a0that might not be proper movie theater etiquette.<\/p>\n

Samira told us about her experience with technology in high school, fangirled a little about \u00a0Hamilton<\/em>, and then played a game of Would You Rather. Enjoy it as much as we did!<\/p>\n
