Let&#8217;s not dive too deeply into the haunted crypt that is my love life, but suffice it to say I have kissed a person or two in my time. No one&#8217;s good at it right away; it takes practice. \u00a0Learning to kiss is like learning to ride a bike. You have no clue what you&#8217;re doing, you&#8217;re nervous, your hands are sweaty, and the whole time you&#8217;re just hoping for the best while hurtling through the unknowable void.<\/p>\n<p>But if there&#8217;s anyone who can teach the masses how the navigate the forbidden and inexplicable witchcraft also known as &#8220;kissing,&#8221; it&#8217;s William Shakespeare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re going in for the kiss but you panic at the last minute:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;I\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6kiss the tender inward of thy hand.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014Sonnet 128<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re trying to resist the \u00a0urge to say &#8220;thank you&#8221; after they kiss you (I mean, you&#8217;ve seen THAT \u00a0episode \u00a0of \u00a0<em>Gilmore Girls<\/em>), \u00a0but you&#8217;re not sure what else to say so instead you go with:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;What&#8217;s done, is done.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Macbeth<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re having one last make-out session before you both go off to separate colleges:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Thus with a kiss I die.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Romeo and Juliet<\/em>, Act 5, Scene 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you have no idea how to flirt:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;You have witchcraft in your lips.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Henry V<\/em>, Act 5, Scene 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re going in for a second kiss:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cSin \u00a0from \u00a0thy \u00a0lips? O trespass sweetly urged!<br \/>\nGive me my \u00a0sin \u00a0again.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Romeo and Juliet<\/em>, Act 1, Scene 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re telling your friend \u00a0all about \u00a0it later:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;I know a lady in Venice would have walked barefoot to Palestine for a touch of his nether lip.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Othello<\/em>, Act 4, Scene 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you STILL \u00a0have no idea how to flirt:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;O Helena, goddess, nymph, perfect, divine! To what, my love, shall I compare thine eyne? Crystal is muddy. O, how ripe in show Thy lips, those kissing cherries, tempting grow!&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>A Midsummer Night&#8217;s Dream<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>When their breath is so pungent you can practically physically see it:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Mine eyes smell onions.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>All&#8217;s Well that Ends Well<\/em>, Act 5, Scene 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>When he&#8217;s a good kisser but he&#8217;s two months younger than you:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;He wears the rose of youth upon him.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Antony and Cleopatra<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 13<\/p>\n<p><strong>When they&#8217;re such a good kisser that \u00a0you&#8217;ve only been on one date but you&#8217;re already planning a future:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Kiss me, Kate, we shall be married o&#8217;Sunday&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>The Taming of the Shrew<\/em>, Act 2, Scene 7<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you can&#8217;t believe they&#8217;re kissing you because they&#8217;re so unbelievably hot:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;You are too hot.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Romeo and Juliet<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>When your crush finally kisses you and it&#8217;s just, you know, it&#8217;s not great:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;What made me love thee?&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Merry Wives of Windsor<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you want to critique their tongue technique \u00a0but you don&#8217;t want to completely ruin the mood:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Love hath made thee a tame snake.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>As You Like It<\/em>, Act 4, Scene 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>When you&#8217;re doing some serious PDA and there are people around, and you can hear them judging you:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;He took the bride about the neck and kissed her lips with such a clamorous smack that at the parting all the church did echo.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>The Taming of the Shrew<\/em>, Act 3, Scene 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>When the kiss is really boring:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;You kiss by th&#8217; book.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>Romeo and Juliet<\/em>, Act 1, Scene 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>When he asks to kiss your hand, which you find kind of weird because what is this, the eighteenth century? So you&#8217;re going to make it weirder.<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;O, let me kiss that hand!&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Let me wipe it first; it smells of mortality.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014<em>King Lear<\/em>, Act 4, Scene 6<\/p>\n<p><strong>When Kate doesn&#8217;t want to kiss you and you can&#8217;t, for the life of you, figure out why:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Why, there&#8217;s a wench!
