It’s your worst-case scenario: \u00a0you’ve just been rejected by your dream school. \u00a0You’re haunted by thoughts of what went wrong: was it the fact that you used an absurd and totally unjustifiable amount of interrobangs in your application essay?!!? (Maybe?!) Was it that you included the phrase \u201cKafka-esque\u201d three times in your personal statement? (That probably didn’t help.) Was it your decision to name Harry Styles as your personal hero\/pick for future president of the United States? (OH GOD WHY DID YOU DO THAT.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of why you were rejected, \u00a0it hurts\u2014and \u00a0it hurts A LOT. \u00a0But as much as it may seem like it, it’s not the end of the world; you’re going to come out of this just fine, and the below tips will help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If ever there was a time for comfort food, that time is NOW.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love Nutella? Here, \u00a0take a truckload. \u00a0 \u00a0Obsessed with kale? Then A. \u00a0Why are you this way, and B. The salad of your dreams awaits. \u00a0If you’re feeling competitive, eat 66 \u00a0M&Ms with chopsticks, and earn your place in history. \u00a0Now your dream college has lost out on a world record holder. Sucks to suck, Yale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Write a strongly worded letter <\/strong>(that you’ll never send).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A la \u00a0Liz Lemon, be sure to tell that college what a monumental mistake they made. Don’t be afraid to get \u00a0flowery \u00a0with your word choice, and remember that \u00a0righteous fury \u00a0+ \u00a0IDGAF swagger \u00a0+ accusatory weeping \u00a0is an unbeatable combo. Writing out your thoughts is a great way \u00a0to process sadness and frustration, and to move on from a difficult experience\u2014be \u00a0it a college rejection, a breakup, \u00a0or the fact that you \u00a0missed the Hogwarts Express \u00a0and then stole your best friend’s dad’s car and \u00a0crashed \u00a0it spectacularly \u00a0into the Whomping Willow and the embarrassment is slowly eating you alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remind yourself of the school(s) that DID accept you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may have been so laser-focused on your dream school that you didn’t pay attention to the awesome perks of your \u201cback-up\u201d schools. Maybe one has a renowned creative writing program, or a beautiful campus, or a really awesome social justice group. The more willing you are to truly consider the great qualities of these schools (and we promise you, there are plenty), the better the chance that you’ll fall in love with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’re uh-mazing, and don’t you forget it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there anyone \u00a0else who can hit every note \u00a0of \u00a0Sign of the Times, or recite entire paragraphs of \u00a0Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban<\/em> \u00a0from memory, or do a semi-good cartwheel? NOT HARDLY. \u00a0It doesn’t matter whether or not you got accepted to your dream school\u2014you’re still \u00a0Hermione Granger\/Rey\/the real MVP, and \u00a0you’re gonna be ok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If all else fails, light that \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcish up with fiendfyre.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since this letter came into your possession, have any of the following happened?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u201cYour hand kinda started to rot \u00a0(gross, stop talking about it)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-You turned into \u00a0Mean Ron \u00a0Weasley \u00a0and \u00a0left your two best friends in a sad tent to die<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-You started getting excruciating migraines and you’re low-key obsessed with Muggle murder and giant snakes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you answered yes to any of the above, THAT LETTER IS A HORCRUX. Print it out, and then please, for the love of Dumbledore, stab it with a basilisk fang, destroy it with the sword of Grffyindor, or Avada Kedavra it POST-HASTE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
