Have you ever tried to make an anagram out of anything? It&#8217;s impossible. It&#8217;s a fool&#8217;s game. The only way to do so successfully is with blood magic and lots of trial and error.<\/p>\n<p>Here, then, are some of the anagrams I&#8217;m pretty sure Tom Riddle rejected along the way, plus the context in which we all would have been just blithely using them. (We say things like \u201cHogwarts\u201d and \u201cHufflepuff\u201d without a trace of irony. Don&#8217;t tell me we WOULDN&#8217;T have gotten on board with \u201cLord Ear Mold Vomit.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Lord Ear Mold Vomit<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;Who do you imagine wants to attack children like yourselves?&#8221; inquired Professor Umbridge in a horribly honeyed voice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hmm, let&#8217;s think,&#8221; said Harry in a mock thoughtful voice, &#8220;maybe <em>Lord Ear Mold Vomit<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ron gasped; Lavender Brown uttered a little scream; Neville \u00a0slipped sideways off his stool.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Old &#8220;Mad Limo&#8221; Trevor<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;He disappeared after leaving the school\u2026 traveled far and wide\u2026 sank so deeply into the Dark Arts, consorted with the very worst of our kind, underwent so many dangerous, magical transformations, that when he resurfaced as Old &#8216;Mad Limo&#8217; Trevor, he was barely recognizable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Dr. Oliver Malt Doom<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;Dr. Oliver Malt Doom is my past, present, and future, Harry Potter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Lord Mim, Toad Lover<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;All this &#8216;You-Know-Who&#8217; nonsense\u2014for eleven years I have been trying to persuade people to call him by his proper name: Lord Mim, Toad Lover.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Mr. Rami Doodle Volt<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;See, there was this wizard who went&#8230; bad. Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Mr. Lame Rot Void<br \/>\n<\/b>Several of the Death Eaters let out low hisses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou dare speak his name?\u201d whispered Bellatrix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d said Harry, maintaining his tight grip on the glass ball, expecting another attempt to bewitch it from him. \u201cYeah, I&#8217;ve got no problem saying Dr. Lame Rot Vo\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShut your mouth!\u201d Bellatrix shrieked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Vlad &#8220;Old-Timer&#8221; Romo<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;Don&#8217;t you see? Who must have sent them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMad Overlord Molt I,\u201d said Harry.<\/p>\n<p>He registered dimly how strange it was that the Dursleys, who \u00a0flinched, winced, and squawked if they heard words like \u201cwizard,\u201d \u00a0\u201cmagic,\u201d or \u201cwand,\u201d could hear the name of the most evil wizard of all \u00a0time without the slightest tremor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/img.sparknotes.com\/content\/sparklife\/sparktalk\/voldemortanagramsdivider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The anagram: \u00a0Todd &#8220;Varoom&#8221; Miller<br \/>\n<\/b>&#8220;Harry Potter,&#8221; he said very softly. His voice might have been part of the spitting fire. &#8220;The Boy Who Lived.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>None of the Death Eaters moved. They were waiting. Everything was waiting.
