The costume:<\/strong> Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird<\/a><\/em>
What you’ll need:<\/strong> A ham costume made out of chicken wire and papier m\u00c3\u00a2ch\u00e9, plus a sense of childhood innocence that will inevitably be torn asunder<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter<\/a><\/em>
What you’ll need:<\/strong> Frumpy clothes, glasses, a tendency to wail about death<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye<\/a>
<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> A red hunting hat and the pernicious belief that you alone are the only person who has ever felt disillusioned with the roles foisted upon us by a largely indifferent society<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> A three-piece ivory suit, that I-bathe-in-money swagger, and, to top it off, an obsession that is as unattainable and nebulous as the American Dream<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> A tattered wedding dress, money, a general distrust of men<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> Hamlet from Hamlet<\/a>
<\/em>What you’ll need: <\/strong>Black clothes, a sullen disposition, maybe a fake skull you can carry around with you and make speeches about (you can buy one at your local Halloween pop-up that just appeared one day right where the Home Depot used to be), and also the urge to commit murder<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> The Phantom from The Phantom of the Opera
<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> Half a mask, a flowing cape, the inability to express your feelings in healthy and constructive ways<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> Offred from The Handmaid’s Tale<\/a>
<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> A white bonnet, a floor-length red dress and cloak, a crossbody satchel, and the crushing weight of patriarchal oppression<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The costume:<\/strong> The witches from Macbeth<\/a>
<\/em>What you’ll need:<\/strong> A mysterious aura, \u201cwild attire\u201d (interpret that as you will), plus two other people because without them you will just look like your basic, everyday, garden-variety witch who is running around dooming people with knowledge<\/p>\n\n\n\n
