Overview

Bridge to Terabithia, published in 1977 by American author Katherine Paterson, is a young adult novel that tells the story of Jesse Aarons, a fifth-grade boy who befriends a new girl in town, Leslie Burke. Jesse and Leslie create an imaginary kingdom called Terabithia, which they access by swinging on a rope over a creek. The novel explores themes of friendship, imagination, and grief. Bridge to Terabithia won the Newbery Medal in 1978 and was adapted into a 2007 film starring Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb, and Zooey Deschanel.
