FRIAR JOHN: Holy Franciscan Friar! Brother, hey!
FRIAR LAWRENCE: That sounds like the voice of Friar John.
Welcome back from Mantua. What does Romeo say? Or does he send me his thoughts in letters?
FRIAR JOHN: A brother of our poor order was here in Verona visiting the sick, and I sought him out to accompany me.
But when I found him, the town health officials suspected we had been exposed to the plague.
They quarantined the house, sealed the doors, and refused to let us out, so that I could not get to Mantua.
FRIAR LAWRENCE: Then who took my letter to Mantua?
FRIAR JOHN: I couldn't send it. Here it is.
I couldn't even send a messenger back to you, they were so fearful of spreading infection.
