Overview

The Kitchen God’s Wife was first published in 1991 and is Chinese-American author Amy Tan’s second novel. It focuses on the struggle of women in a patriarchal society, as well as the difficulties of dealing with the immigrant experience and bi-cultural identities in the United States. The Kitchen God’s Wife is partly based on the experiences of Tan’s mother, Daisy Tan.
