Overview

Where the Red Fern Grows is a 1961 children’s novel by Wilson Rawls. It tells the story of Billy Colman, a young boy growing up in the Ozark Mountains who desperately wants a pair of hunting dogs. After working tirelessly for two years to save up enough money, Billy finally purchases two coonhounds, whom he names Old Dan and Little Ann. As Billy raises and trains his coonhounds, their adventures unfold, culminating in a tale of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring bond between a boy and his dogs.
