Overview

“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury was originally titled “The World the Children Made” and published in the September 23, 1950 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. The story is set in the futuristic home of George and Lydia Hadley and their children, Peter and Wendy. Machines and computers in the home perform all of the family’s daily tasks, including cooking, cleaning, and other caretaking. “The Veldt” is a science fiction classic written by one of the genre’s most revered writers. It was subsequently republished in Bradbury’s 1951 anthology of short stories, The Illustrated Man.
