Overview

Uglies is a YA dystopian novel by American writer Scott Westerfeld published in 2005 that follows Tally Youngblood, a sixteen-year-old girl living in a post-apocalyptic society that is obsessed with beauty and uniformity. Westerfeld continued the Uglies saga with Pretties (also in 2005) and Specials (2006), which continue Tally’s story, and then Extras (2007), which has a different progatonist. Uglies was named as among the “Best Books for Young Adults” by the American Library Association in 2006.
