Overview

Cannery Row, published in 1945, is a novel by Nobel Prize winning American author John Steinbeck. It is set during the Great Depression in Monterey, California, and follows the lives of a group of characters who live on a street called Cannery Row. The novel is episodic in nature, with each chapter focusing on a different character or group of characters. The book’s themes include the importance of community, the struggle for survival, and the human capacity for both good and evil.
