Overview

My Sister’s Keeper, published in 2004, is a novel by Jodi Picoult that explores the moral and ethical implications of using one person’s body to save another’s life. The book is narrated by multiple characters, but primarily by Anna Fitzgerald, a thirteen-year-old girl who was conceived in order to serve as a donor for her older sister, Kate, who suffers from leukemia. When Anna hires a lawyer to help her sue her parents for medical emancipation, the Fitzgerald family is torn apart and forced to confront their own beliefs and values.
